We have been talking about green energy and renewable sources of power for a very long time, however it seems that we may be at a turning point.
Following lengthy consultations, the final version of Feed in Tariffs (FITs) were published at the beginning of the year. The purpose of this tariff is to encourage investment into renewable technology by affectively guaranteeing the price for energy produced. In addition to this, there is an additional top up when power is sold back to the Grid. The level of tariff depends largely on the technology used and the level at which it is being produced.

This has however sparked fresh interest from landowners in small to medium turbines, however there are many other forms of producing power which may suit your circumstances better.

You may have seen in the press comments indicating that the small to medium wind turbine will come to the rescue if you get the call from the telecommunication operator wishing to decommission their site. It is unlikely that this will be possible as most turbine provides will not fit their equipment to a 3rd party tower. The main considerations in this respect are if the location is suitable and that power has been installed to the site.

We have found that an average site in Hertfordshire or Essex will generate up to £5000-£7,000 per annum depending on the turbine. With this example the cost of the turbine is in the region of £50,000 and, as such, the return on investment is very good in the current climate.
